Be Loving

43 - Love

Love, "agape" love, in particular, is a quality of unconditional selflessness towards another person. Generous acts of kindness often characterize it without the intention or motive of a reward. Agape love is the highest form of love, which is sacrificial and selfless. God is love and is, therefore, the perfect example of love. Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14. The world has perhaps skewed the ‘real’ meaning of love. The Bible is the true source of the original meaning. Below are characteristics of love and what it is not, derived from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.

Love is:

  • Patient
  • Kind
  • Keeping no records of wrongs
  • Rejoicing in the truth
  • Always protecting
  • Always trusting
  • Always hoping
  • Always persevering
  • Never failing

Love is NOT:

  • Envious
  • Boastful
  • Proud
  • Rude
  • Self-seeking
  • Easily angered
  • Delighting in evil

It is so important in leadership to love other people with agape love. Show them dignity and respect, and consider their needs as well. Show love towards your family, neighbors, community, and everyone else in your path. Not everyone else is enlightened to respond to you in love. You may have a few people who quickly came to mind at this thought!  Yet remember, love is unconditional, and it keeps no records of wrongs. Show mercy, love, and respect to others through confidence, strength, and knowing you are loved and forgiven. There is no better word than THE Word to express the beauty of love:

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.” 1 John 4:7

Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”  Colossians 3:14

And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1Corinthians 13:13

Greater love has no one than this. That someone lay down his life for his friends.”  John 15:13

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:8

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”  1 Peter 4:8

Let all that you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:14

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.” 1 John 4:18

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

John 13:34-35

We love because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses.” Proverbs 10:12
